Two weeks are in the books at NMS!
It has been a great start to the school year here at Newport Middle. The 6th graders are transitioning well and the 7th and 8th graders are right back into routine. I have greatly enjoyed seeing seeing the students again, how they have grown and their their excitement for the school year. Here are a few pieces of information that may be helpful for parents this year at NMS:
NMS Website: The NMS website has changed locations. You can now access the website at email@example.com.
AVID Planners and Binders: All students are keeping an AVID binder and planner this school year. The binder should be home to all your student’s paperwork. Documents should be sorted by class tabs. Please keep in mind, Google Classroom is another place your student may have stored school work. The planner is a wonderful tool for student/parent/teacher communication. Students fill out their planner in each class everyday. The information in the planner should help you know if they have homework, what they are up to in class and when important future events are happening (like tests). As a parent of two students here at NMS, I have found the planner to be very useful.
Pinnacle: Pinnacle is our online gradebook, which you have access to as a parent. You should be receiving your PIV, or access code, to the Pinnacle system in the mail within the next couple of weeks. Pinnacle can be accessed through the NMS website under Resources and Gradebook. I encourage you to check pinnacle weekly, just to keep up on your student’s progress.
Grading Periods: At NMS we have six individual grading periods. Please follow this link to read more about our grading periods. NMS Grading Basics
As always, if you have questions that come up throughout the school year, the NMS team is happy to help. Thank you for helping contribute to the great start this school year.
